Ajisen Ramen, Melbourne

Hahaha ok ok, jokes over. Because if you didn’t know any better, the Bourke Street address might as well have been Lygon with a noodle experience that not too dissimilar to spaghetti. Ajisen might hail from Kumamoto Prefecture but the chain store ramen doesn’t have a shade on the humble street vendor in Shinjuku. A tonkotsu pork broth is usually a good judge of a ramen-ya. It is not brilliant here. Gyoza and agedashi tofu entrees are fine, but deep fried squid is better left at the yum cha table. And to round off the multi-cultural mash up, spicy beef soup is a bit like cloudy pho with fresh chilli which actually went down okay.

So the food didn’t bring tears of joy, and certainly none of laughter. Where is the ramen, Ajisen?

1.5 / 5 yums!

Where? 130 Bourke St, Melbourne, VIC
