Interlude

W: interlude brings the defibrillator to the lost world of food - reviving asparagus, injecting life to vanilla with miso, peppering the pannacotta and even risking a move serving up slices of blackberry rollups. the night revved like a tachometer of thrills - the initial hesitation hearing the description, to the stalled moment as mouths chew and interrogate and the final approving smiles of pleasure as flavours mix and explode. other than the sweet lime l'occitane handwash, a strange highlight was the bread and butter. and in no cryptic terms, try the raisin and fennel with the fresh italian butter. $125 is a hefty price tag for 11 plates but when its a ticket to such an exciting rollercoaster of food, its worth a try.

N: Interlude can be best summed up by one word, surprising. As each petit sized course was served I was left scratching my head, wondering which ingredient was contributing to the melody of flavours in my mouth. Call me a fine dining newbie (of which I am) but is that a blackberry roll-up served with my squab? hmm yes, yes it is. Oh my, are those pop-rocks in my decomposed cheesecake? why yes sir, it sure is. Would you like miso with your buttermilk pancake? Why the hell not!! Dining at interlude is like taking your first walk down Brunswick street, at first strange, different and slightly intimidating, but as you start to explore it hits you, the unexpected mix of sharp and smooth, subtle and extravagant, sweet and savoury, just works so well. Interlude’s dishes managed to combine seemingly incompatible flavours, producing a truly memorable, innovative dining experience. And just like those alleyways off Brunswick Street, hiding those little gem’s of cafes/bars, Interlude is well worth the effort.
