So instead of heading to the safety of Springy Central, we go searching in “Little Thailand”, a tiny pocket on the outskirts. Me Dee sits facing the St Johns, a quaint bare basics little shop that does some things that you won’t normally see on more Westernised Thai joints. Rice and meat dishes are mainly dry stir-fries of basil, lemon, pepper and curry. Being ultra safe but brought joy was the pad thai, nicely stir-fried rice noodles and eggs, with a good fish sauce kick, tang from the tamarind and squeeze of lime. Not the sickly sweet type you’ll find elsewhere. Penang red curry with chicken is mild, coconut creamy, jammed with spice making it something you could very happily just eat rice with. A good sign.
With food this decent, you shouldn’t have to go to your backup. Go out on a limb and you will be rewarded.
