Grain, Tea, Rice & Noodles

Once the young spawn of Blue Eye Dragon, now discarded. Without the faces behind Pyrmont’s favourite Asian place, it seems to have spiralled into a deep depression. Sunday night, 7pm and we were the only customers dining in a stripped back, modern sterile place.

Offering nothing that differentiates it from the next Chinese eatery, but not pretending to be more than it is, one can’t understand why only crickets could be heard. It could be all in the food though, the San Bei stir fried beef with veggies is the sort found at the Broadway food court underneath a sneeze guard in a thick, gluggy sauce of basil, chilli, soy and ginger. Chicken laksa lacked a true Malaysian’s touch and the depth of flavour that would create more excitement. Unfortunately the only excitement for me was in the name.
