Coogee Bite Cafe

Putting the “bite” into Coogee, this humble café sits on the less glamourous side of this beachy Eastern suburb. More Target (that’s Tarr-jay) than the Chanel/Bvlgari/Diesel sunnies wearing brigade of Barzura, doesn’t mean it’s any less popular. In fact, there’s this worn beach shack charm with black and white framed photos, the aged wooden café tables and the unforgettable baby cushions that look like they could have once lined a cot.

Also memorable is the breakfast, the coffee very drinkable, but it’s the Kenny Benny that’s the real hit. On lightly toasted rye, a hash brown, followed by a rasher of bacon cooked softly, beautifully yolky poached eggs, topped with a thick and tasty hollandaise. I wanted another. Behave during the week and this is the perfect treat to start the weekend. Breakfast the local way, have a bite at the Coogee Bite.
