Haymarket Chinese Restaurant

Bland name, tasty food. Open til 2am if you have the late night munchies, you’re guaranteed quality Chinese food at Chinatown prices. My soy bean milk fix is always satisfied with the complementary glass on arrival. Always order the Fu Jian fried rice, a Cantonese style dish with a wet, rich, thick, garlic, ginger and soy gravy and stir fried scallops, prawn with snap fresh crunchy mixed vegies. The spicy salt squid goes well with the rice, lightly battered but oh so crispy. The spicy salt walks the tightrope balancing Szechuan peppercorns and sea salt. Yum. Three sauce chicken hotpot is interesting because I can’t quite figure out what the sauces are. There is a lot of garlic, ginger and spring onion... I prefer the beef brisket and white radish hotpot, everything stewed down to a Play Doh consistency. Mental note: for late night food that puts a small dent in your hip pocket, put this in your top 10.

3.5 / 5 yums!
