Kenzan @ GPO

Drafting players can be a tricky exercise. Brothers of stars tend to have their names bandied around after the season ends. Like the Selwoods, this place lives up to the quality of its bigger brother on Flinders Lane. The little fella at GPO is doing well. Great for the hip pocket too, you get a Gucci for Witchery prices. A popular lunchtime haunt for the office folk in the city with not much seating on Postal Lane, it’s always a struggle. Worth it just for the delightful sushi, can’t go anywhere else in the city. The Katsu-Ju is rewarding and comparable to Sydney’s Ichi-Ban Boshi, a generous fried pork cutlet with a soy mirin sauce. Shoyu ramen pleases, it’s good but I’d say Sydney still has better. I’m drawn to bento boxes as I am to James Hird when he majestically graces the field on the idiot box. Neatly compartmentalised are juicy pieces of chicken karage, thin strips of beef teriyaki, a small piece of mirin and sake infused grilled salmon and a creamy potato mash.

3.5 / 5 yums!
